And he didn't help me. So like I said, if he exists, he doesn't care for me and I'm damned anyways.

Sometimes when your life falls apart people turn to faith because they find it comforting and that it might be the one stable thing in their life. It gives them hope for a better future. He was obviously in a dark place and tried to turn to faith to help him get out. Has nothing to do with him being an atheist, or anything about him renouncing or announcing his faith. May 23, 2012 - I just broke up with my girlfriend which we dated for 15 months. Even though we are still young, i treated this girl like she was my wife. I protected her, i loved her like no other girl and she meant the world to me. I learned how to play ukulele so i could play her all her songs and write her one which i did and she loved it. May 21, 2012 - Exactly. The brigade of judgmental folks need to see that people go through stages of faith in a lifetime. Sometimes life rattles us to our core and we lose faith in everything. Danny had one hell of a hard life growing up. Regardless, who cares what his personal truth is? It's a song. It may just be figurative -- i.e. Freddy Mercury never pulled a trigger, killed a man and told his mom about it. So, get off the poor guy's back. If it bothers you that much, stick to faith music.

Its a line they may have put in there because it rhymed and probably it was how the script felt when they wrote this song.
